Haha, I said the same thing, and then I beat about 7 of them in one day. Like roller coasters, the ride is over far too soon, but each one is better because you just got done with riding another. I say go nuts with it.
Something like Rome: Total War, aesir? That game pushes a lot of boundaries as it is. To get 'massive' amounts of troops on screen though, they'll probably all have to be sprites. I can get 7-8000 troops on screen in Rome, before it starts chugging really nasty.
That is fantastic Josh! And a native Texan too! My wife and I are expecting our second (another girl) in 7 weeks. Our first was born at 31 weeks (3.13 LBS) but we are at 32 weeks currently with our second...so we're in uncharted territory! Congratulations again!
Actually, a note to Max users - the plugin link JKMakowka posted is an old version which doesn't work with 3dsmax7+ A newer Max 7/8 working release is included with the Verse full Windows download found here - http://uni-verse.org/uploads/media/setup.exe (5mb)
Really nice scene ! I like the ambience and the colors but the sun reflection on the water seems to be a little bit weird. Maybe this link can help you : https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/Sunset_over_Lake_Nasser_by_Dennis_G._Jarvis.jpg ? Do you think to add more props on this scene ?
I've never run into this myself and I've been using Maya since version 7, although I haven't been looking for this type of thing. I just tested with 2011, a few different methods and everything was symmetrical after triangulation, so I guess it might be solved :)
Create a constant3Vector in the material editor, set the values to something like 1.3,1.3,.7 (some people even put 0 in the Blue channel, but I don't). then create a multiply node. Connect the normal map and the vector to the multiply node and then connect its output to your normal slot.
I can only think of the time I was a child of about 7, and was at school. The snow looked fine, so I jumped into it, feet first. I was instantly buried to my neck, and late for class. I think I was stuck for half an hour trying to get free.
I have the same version of 3DC on widows 7 and haven't any issues with the unwrap feature, I wish I had some suggetions for you. I could try to see if I can recreate the issue. Unwrapping is most of what I used 3d coat for.
Looking good, Ben. One suggestion I would have is to perhaps push the proportions a bit more toward younger boy. More towards 7 heads tall. And maybe a bit more lanky and the suit ill-fitting in places. As if he has not grown into it propely yet.
