The links from Microneezia are a great place to start. I wouldn't say it's always a code monkey thing, Vig. Shader authoring isn't really all that tough, just another language to learn, and pretty quick to pick up at that. Lots of samples around to learn from. Hey Carlos, I recommend brightening your environments so we can actually see your work. I think I like what I see? ;) Also don't be afraid to push your polycount. The environments you're making look to want to be next gen, but they can use a serious bit more polys. -

I think you should consider focusing on a particular part of 3d, because at the moment it seems like your pretty good at both (character and environmental) , but not good enough in either. I think the saloon girl and her environment were the best, but the scene still lacks something, something next gen, something… -

I think the textures are actually photos scans as the thread title says it :) . 4K textures for one fruit piece or for the sliced up parts as well? That's some next next gen fruit you got there. The sliced up parts could use some more gloss I think, they look a little dried out now. -

I have a degree in Accounting and Finance haha (don't ask me to do your taxes, i'll screw em up!) And I just finished a contract working on a next gen AAA title (undisclosed :( yet) for my biggest client to date. Its definitely possible to freelance without an art degree or official training. -

Great job guys, so many killer entries! I actually had a really hard time choosing. :) Although Bogdanbl4 seriously took it to a new level, that texture is freakin' amazing, even puts some next-gen stuff to shame, in my opinion. Just played it. ran okay on my 3870 but I figured Im 2 gens behind and I guess its time for a new video card. Hopefully it runs somewhat decent on ps3. Dont really notice lack of AA or screen tearing. Loving the soundtrack...I wish I could just sit in the car always. -

Why, thank you! This isn't 'optimized' to any degree, which is partly why the vanilla doesn't look as good. Just my normal map is larger in memory consumption than their entire 357... My hidden aim is for this to be a HD pack ready at release when they're done with xen, just like in the old days with blueshift :smile: -
Re: How to merge a Sculpt with Rocksurface the right way
Just wondering if the amount of decimation for the rocks is enough considering its size. The whole rock is about 12k tris which isnt a lot. How high would be the pixeldensity be in next gen games? Also before i bake the high poly sculpt is it a good idea to set differnt smoothing groups to get harsher and sharper edges?
