Sometimes your peers will be more impressed if you make everything yourself, just because of how unique your creation is and how hard youve worked to achieve that result. Bosses or companies dont care about that, they want a good concept done quickly (with no stealing or copyright issues).
Thanks Uberren! Sorry about not posting forever, this is a really quickly done render to show proportion changes and the base materials that I'm going to continue to work on. I still need to learn how to properly texture more subtle details as well light better. [IMG][/img]
I quickly drew a wireframe, it looks like shit, but you got the idea. Also try to avoid ngons. (Polygons that have more than 4 sides) You might have some hard edges that should be soft too. https://youtu.be/yv1PQf_j3zY?t=39s
Another pretty big update for the end of today. Really pushing hard to finish this quickly without sacrificing quality. It's also worth noting that I'm using Maya for the first time to learn the software coming from 3ds max. I have to say I'm quite happy with it.
I recall that Fred was funding a large part of DWII out of his own pocket, if not the entire prize pool. Maybe Vig is onto something. It's definitely a bummer but maybe DW grew too quickly and became quite difficult to manage. Hope you get your swag :)
It's easy to focus on the negative side of things. Yes, there are lots of layoffs. However, there are still thousands and thousands of people not getting laid off. Even when they are laid off, many find jobs quite quickly. Studios are usually good at hiring people or helping people dealing with layoffs.
I was gonna volunteer, i have things like this at work to save time and can knock up photoshop scripts reasonably quickly, but seeing as someone beat me to it, now I will wait and see what goodies he has got for us nice one harlequin!
Yeah they added the working pivot in Max 2008, it's a poor man's Maya pivot, it's highly recommended to add a shortcut to Working Pivot and Edit Working Pivot, to be able to move it around quickly (still not as quick as Maya though, it's one of the things I miss most from Maya...).
Who would be populating all the ratings and info for this site, and how would the users know to trust their opinions? Who would keep all the pricing data up to date? We have a wiki page where a couple members tried to do just that, and it very quickly grew stale and out of date. http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Tools Just…
i believe this career is momentum based. those that keep at it are better rewarded. tech advances so quickly, a lot will move out ahead of you if you let it. you've been around a long time and have solid fundamentals, that's worth something. don't give up on yourself. embrace the new and stay on board, you won't regret it.
