I don't think the price will jump with this update since they aren't announcing it as a 4.5 or anything. I think this is just one of the free updates they do along the life of the current version. I could be wrong though. -
Re: Baking lighting in Maya
in the Convert to File Texture options, Maya 4.5 has an option called "background mode" if you set it to Extend Edge Color it should solve your problem... Though I don't remember if this option is in 4.
