Regarding drawing. Opinion vary here. I say it depends on how you personally learn best. Some people learn best by just doing tons of stuff and repeating things endlessly, some learn more by focusing analyizing and carefully executing. They do accept everyone, but from my experience, the ones that don't cut it in the first year don't end up coming back. The instructors are brutally honest with their critiques. Hey man, I think you need to focus a bit more on your silhouette on this last drawing. It's feeling a bit mushy. Define some shapes with stronger straighter edges. Pretend you're drawing fucking superman. -

in the later versions of max, in the freeform section of the graphite modeling tools there is a tool to draw splines on top of any surface. draw the bevels out, model a beveled strip and path-deform/extrude along the spline. easy floaters! -
