@Stinkhorse, thank you! Biggest challenge? Probably drawing the pelvis from memory. For muscles I think the forearms, lower legs, and face muscles will require multiple studies so I can commit them to memory. Today, I did some dino skull studies.
Why not model a complete dinosaur tooth, and add to it after you have the form to work from. As if you were making it by hand. Might be easier to see what would be recognizable. Check out some Turok games for reference on successful dino/tech combination for more ideas.
Ding ding ding! Day 14 completed, bumpy ride but Im ready to put these studies aside for a moment to adress the issues noticed through feedback and self-critique. Excited to see what I can apply to my imaginative works. So, Im already on top of what Im doing next. 1. Im currently reading through Scott Robertson's books,…
I'll be onest. It looks like a very weak portfolio.A zbrush screenshot with a head, a head on a street o0 and a dino in what i believe is the udk enviroment . I also didn't see a car on your portfolio. Some display of anatomy as a character modeller i'd see it a must, not just a head...
I love dinos, you don't see enough of them I think! Really well done and optimal. Very inspiring for me. I'm jealous of your diverse range of skills! The yellow borders on your site feel unnecessarily intense. That's my one gripe! Nice work.
We welcome discussion on this topic, thanks for starting the thread. Birds are definitely your best bet for anatomy, since they're the descendents of archaeopteryx or a similar dino. While the hands & feet might be more robust than in most modern birds, it's unlikely they'd be as muscled as on your model. Note how thin the muscles of the lower leg are for all of the early flyers.
Hey Raven, thanks for the advice, ill definately use some dino skele's for help referencing the body, i havnt had time to do much more yet though. For the head i will be using this image and a few others to get the "tyranid" look that most of the 40k models seem to have:

There will be Weekly questions pertaining to our game development, ULU, and UDK as well. Let us know what you think.
for color, i'm not sure if you have ever watched "walking with dinosaurs" on the discovery channel but they have some really cool renders of the dinosaurs in colors. Maybe that will give you some ideas. http://dsc.discovery.com/dinosaurs/ ^ that has a lot of video clips and dino viewers that can give you some ideas
