@Muzz Explosion looks good, though it seems a bit soft and slow for a large explosion. Could work well for a computer console going it. It already seems to have that fizzy electrical feel to it.
7. Banging alien androids/cyborgs. Same. But then again, "space travel and leaving everything behind" theme is my soft spot. *Looking at you; Civ: Beyond Earth teaser vid.*

But since plugins in 3d max is what makes it great, it does crash a lot. I dare to say "stable" and "convenient" soft are oxymoron . Surprisingly Blender is most stable of all of them.
The suit, to me, feels very rubbery. Partially because of the spec, and partially because of the edges, they're too soft with little creasing. I really really feel this way about the shoes.
I would not do that as a few repeating planks. Think macro scale not micro scale. That concept is broad forms and soft color transitions, the small scale details are not a significant part of the image.
Every week just before 1 hour of football. McDonalds! £1.25 for a double cheeseburger, then maybe an extra cheeseburger, always with small or medium fries. Hardly ever get a soft drink.
That concept is the biz. Can't wait to see what you come up with. JadeEyePanda is right though. Maybe you need to retopo that armor before detailing. As it is it looks very lumpy and soft.
