yeah i've been using one of these for max for a while and like gamedev really got into the node based system when I started working with Unreal 3. It is a quick way to play around and get different results and get what you are actually shooting for in the materials.
Lenovo are my favourite at the moment if you're not looking to spend thousands. As far as laptop suitability goes.. My main workstation is an Alienware x15 which works very well indeed for all manner of gamedev related activities. It's getting on for £4k (I didn't pay for it obvs) so not exactly an economical solution but…
I remember said book going for free at this point? Here is where I got it from: http://www.gamedev.net/page/resources/_/technical/graphics-programming-and-theory/graphics-programming-black-book-r1698 Apologize if I'm not allowed to post the link, GameDev is a reputable site, right?
Thanks for the kind comments, that's awesome to hear ! Ya that feature has been requested numerous times .. and actually my process already included highres versions for the icons before turning them to pixel art. Obviously with the nature of gamedev some things get implemented before others.
Yeah, but i mean classic 3d hobbyism. As in, making models and still renders or animations. Not gamedev, which is hugely popular. Thanks everybody! :D So glad you like it! I hope it's helpful to people. So I got frontpaged on reddit on /r/gamedev/, and apparently that's also been named the subreddit of the day. Holy crap. So many site visits, and like 60+ new Twitter followers in the last half hour. Insane.

that's pretty cool for the start :) hi-res stuff looks quite nice. I would remove the non-related experience from your cv tho, cauz unfortunately it is useless for gamedev. Good luck - u've got some good stuff going on as for a beginner guy, I wish i had that when i was starting...
