first and foremost....you should really approach your UV layout a bit more. there's lots of wasted space. as for the seam prob...not too sure. -

HDRShop is also great for converting to different types of environment map layouts. I use it pretty often at work going between cubecross and equirectangular. -

This is the final picture after re-baking several times, tweaking both UV-layout, cage and the actual normal map. Thanks for the help and tips. -

Yep, can be plain sailing in other apps as well, but the fiddly bit nine times out of ten for me, is when optimising a useable layout. -

Version C is the latest one. I think I'll work with that basic layout and do a little more experimentation before I finalize the design. -

That's a great point and thank you for the overlay sketch! Honestly storyboards and layouts have always been a weakness. I'm getting better, but definitely not there yet.
