You shouldn't triangulate the highpoly, that doesn't change a thing. However triangulating the lowpoly can prevent some shading errors.

Treads are in and animated. Needs some tweaking, but it's working. Next will be to UV & toss it over to mudbox for a highpoly sculpt and baking, then to texture.

Certainly. It's the exact same method you'd use when doing a highpoly model then baking down to the game res mesh.

Your edges are too tight. You need to loosen those on your highpoly. You are loosing them in your lowpoly.
