This article is a bit wrong. First, for a correct linear workflow, you have to degamma your diffuse textures, else by setting input at 2.2 in the gamma/lut or setting them individually. So much of this hinges on whether we’re talking about texturing for a diffuse-only engine, or for PBR. For PBR all that evidence suggests that you paint in any highlights or form shading very weakly (if at all) and let the engine do its thing to generate reflections. Great advice from joeriv up there, but just to further emphasize his point.. Absolutely do not just take a photo of a locker and slap it on. The result will look pretty dang bad. Watch Mike Snight's sci-fi floor texturing tutorial on 3DMotive; I think it will give you a much greater understanding of the texturing process…
