Heres something i did with only 7 weeks of 3DS MAX experience in about 2 hours. Poly count is 236. Tri count is 1,300 odd. -

I didn't get down to 200 but 254. Its less than the original and I think a bit of an improvement. Thanks everyone for the advice. The total model is 628. -

the best thing about these recent vector games is that they don't run poor on really low-end systems, like from 30 to even 72fps on a p2 233 w/ banshee.
