Did more searches for this and seems its a problem for all versions of max after max 9. This pisses me off to no end. Max support doesn't have a solution to this. Why would anyone want to create a polygon in mid air like this? Seems I'm gonna revert to max 8 and just use 2010 for normal map baking or what ever 8 doesn't… -

Well.. I have spent a day on this.. literally. Importing and exporting. Guruwave? ADDS triangles when the poly is not quad shaped (but still 4 vertex). well the GFX card should come with a DVI to HDMI converter plug so really it does anyway. But its still not needed. As for the system that's really close (it has 9 gigs of ram i was only going to do 6) to what i was planning on building. I mean like self illumination - I wanted glowing runes controlled by a texture map. I've got it working, but it seems that the map slot is basically just a strength thing from black to white, and carries no colour information.
