Yeah, the lighting certainly has helped. Also good to have brought out the less obvious details in the texture some and it's nice to see some more colour variation. Decals are the way to go, though I'm unsure how such a task would be done within max. It's lookin great, keep at it
Here's a weapon I've been working on. If you've played Marathon/Halo games you're probably familiar with the sort of weapon I'm going after. Material wise, I'm going after for a bit of a damaged/aged look but I think I might have overdone it in some ways, and underdone it in others. More decals? Thoughts? (Polycount…
Hello, This is one of my projects which I based on a old diner I saw a few years ago in a country setting. I'm looking for feed back to improve it. There is no interior of the diner / basic one in the truck to give the shadow threw the window of a wheel and seat. I just noticed that some of the tree decals in the…
Cheers divi :) Don't worry too much about the repetition; I will be creating one or two more variations, along with debris models. I will be also using decals and vegetation; hopefully that should take care of it. Good point about the scratches, I will pimp them out a little bit :)
I finally got around to getting some more done (Classes are coming to a close and final projects are starting). Anyways, here's a cherry blossom tree, some pedal decals and a pedal particle effect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVmuw1vNLRY (is it even possible to have a youtube video on here?)
Your best bet here is to use tiling textures, rather than trying to uniquely unwrap each piece - especially for things like walls. You can use smaller bespoke parts to break up repetition, mixed with with maybe something like a vertex colour blended shader and decals.
My idea is to use a dynamic spline mesh with a decal material the modifies the displacement. As the wheel would go, it would pull out new spline points that would follow the movement of the wheel, and would snap to the terrain. Theoretically this can work, but it would require a custom spline mesh and custom shader.
@Special KBS That looks fantastic! @JonConley Nice,i just figured if you're making a tiling texture repetition isnt that bad, you can always break it up with like vertex painting or decals. Thats atleast how i thought about it when i made a smaller pattern.
Doesn't look too sci-fi for me (the walls) but the lower part of the walls in the right is repetitive, try to make some variation, make some supports for the beams to cut the repetitive parts. Maybe some subtle decals here and there wouldn't hurt. I really like the scene! Keep it up! ^^
good link I'll bare those comments in mind going forward So far made the basic pieces, windows/doors/upper and lower building parts. First attempt at joining them together. Obviously still needs additional props like air con units, signs and decals.
