Update: I remade the arrowhead material. It's a lot more physically accurate now, so it doesn't look as weird. I also made low-poly meshes and realtime-friendly materials. I was at the same point when I started my HK416 (though I never made a realtime version of it). I just made test bakes to see if the highpoly edges transfered well into a normal map. All of these three versions work. On the first one only the softest angles are a bit too soft (to me). Version two looks nice. -

Ideally speaking your diffuse texture should have little to no lighting information, possibly very faint directional lighting to keep it looking like it has depth when there's no lightsource (shouldn't happen if your scene is lit correctly but… -

My pet peeve of modern graphics is kludgy realtime ambient occlusion. Either do it properly when processing the assets/building lighting, or don't do it at all! I fail to see the appeal in smudgy black halos around everything, it just looks awful even when it's done right, which it rarely is. (nicked from another thread on… -

Not sure why I'm doing these renders other than for my own frusterated enjoyment, they don't get me very far when it comes to realtime graphics, except that they are helping me visualize things a bit. Here's where I got with the head. This is my very first half-decent SSS render. Not great, but I won't complain. -

Ok i look that but its not a precalculate render, its a realtime render in Unity, so its more difficult to tweak the Shadow, I can active the Shadow cascade but i try to keep the perf at 60 FPS ;) I make game so its more interesting to have a good framerate :) I will active the Shadow cascade to show the perf -

didn't even know it could be done realtime / in-engine .. i assume the solution i posted above bakes the animation to the new rig, which is then exported and treated like any other animation by the engine? enlighten me, it's an interesting problem i couldn't really solve while working on a hl2 mod with a gazillion… -

more apple and oranges comments please ! i cracked up on seeing it reocur. UE4 looks a bit more western , Lumin is ofc asia-ish. all based on the artwork. The thing is we never got to know how many polys´and so on they were running att realtime. Kinda easy to say "hey this interactive movie is better than this". -

For me, this is another standard setter, in terms of what can be done with UDK in realtime. It reminds me of Red Dead Redemption, and looks really inviting. Really gives me the inspiration to persevere with my own little projects between UDK & Max, knowing that if I stay commited, I'll be able to make scenes as good as…
