I didn't mean to sound negative, just making a list of things I think need to be tweaked so the map would live up to its maximum potential. You've got some great ideas and cool new game play mechanics no ones ever seen before. With a little polish you could have something amazing. You've gotten the cart before the horse…
Could it be because the surface is very thin, therefore trying to "push" the pattern through from both sides? You could try using polyGroups or masking to hide the backfaces while you're painting on the outside, it might work better.
There's a bunch of good stuff on the Overclocked Remix site. ocremix.org A lot of it is just remixes but you'll find a bunch of covers as well. The Doom and Street Fighter albums Dark Side of Phobos and Blood on the Asphalt, respectively, come highly recommended.
They have to be 3d printed with the PC logo embedded into the side, bottom and inside. The inside can be lacquered to make it smooth but the general shape should reflect low poly geo. Opens 3ds max. Goggles 3d printing sites.
Is this 100% self illuminated, or is there a special shader involved? Only 1 critique - it looks like you've used 8 sided cylinders for everything, even though there's a huge difference in size between elements. (such as the robot head vs the handlebars)
For zbrush you can increase performance dramatically by doing any of these 4 things: Up the memory in preferences to 4096, turn off shadows in render menu, turn off double sided faces, and use the a smaller canvas size.
Changed the blade similar to what Darkleopard was suggesting. I still wanted it to counter the bottom handle, so I made it curve the other way. Decided to mirror the side. Handle looks too chunky. Need to re-size that, and maybe the blade.
Little bit more work on the side section. Just trying to get everything in place first. Then i'll go back over it and clean stuff up. Not too keen on all the panel work atm, the indents don't look the right size.
It seems it just does a simple trick of rendering it 2x sized and then re-scaleing back. It doesn't work very well for lots of tiny scattered details on a surface, hairs etc. And doing it 4x takes forever and hangs Blender on my side
