still a long way to go, had to spend a fair amount of time re-adjusting scale and stuff as my grid in maya hadn't matched that of UDK as I had thought anyway I think I have good solid foundations now :)
Powers of two rule is only for bitmaps. Not for models. It's nice to have consistent texel density, but in practice it is difficult/impossible to maintain. It is not a strict rule, it is a "nice to have". Wall thickness is best matched to your grid, just to make it easier to align/snap pieces. That's it.
have a square plane as a subtool (optionally: with a grid texture on it) and build your stuff to tile from left to right and top to bottom, frame "f" with the plane subtool selected, hide it, document->zapplink to photoshop, remove minor seams. hope that helps dude:)
Hey almighty_gir, I modeled in "A" pose. The reason for modeling in the leather folds was to capture the silhouette of the model. I did add in some parallel edge loops to support the bend of the arm. I agree that grid lines are ideal for topology. Thanks for your input :)
The "grid" on characters is a shadow tech issue causing artifacts to appear across edges of the mesh. This happens in BlackOps and to a degree in MW3 (m0ar idtech). Tweaking your shadow options in your graphics card's control panel should eliminate those kind of issues.
I never thought I would say that, EVER but yeah - can't wait for the mac version! (at least I can GoZ and use a 3D grid in the meantime. And also repeatedly hit [ and ] before realizing they forgot to put brush resizing in the mac release!!!)
Is there a way to combine this with auto grid? Also on my wish list is to not have to grab the move gizmo but instead move by draging in screen space with something like "shift" to lock the axis. Anyhow, this script is super rad man!!!! Awesome work!!! Donated too ;)
Hey Vig, awesome idea. I hope asking questions is kosher in these sketchbook threads I hope to learn from everyone as well as share my own stuff. What are the grid marks and green boxes for in your main ref/inspiration picture?
I had the grid hidden, and unhiding that gave me another fps, bringing me to 13. when i am not playing the animation i get like 40 fps, but when I play the timeline, BAM! 13 fps. FUUU UCK!
That's funny because I feel the same way about Max. Everything feels 10x harder to make in Max and takes longer. I absolutely hate how snapping and the grid works in Max. But I see videos of people making it look so easy.
