so at work using max 2010 64bit version and i'm trying to move verts freehand and its treating them like the grid snap toggle is on. but its not!!!!!!! it moves 5 ft in the x axis and 10 in the y axis. anyone have a clue to whats going on?

I was already aware of the Ctrl+Y ( Proof Colors ) I've should have mentioned I already tried that. I'm afraid one of my monitors might have a wonky format assigned that is the cause of this.
Hi Axi5, Thanks for the suggests, but it does not work. Changing the Axis Orientation to Component does not move it in the diagonal direction like the Transform tool does. It just move it on a flat x,y,z plane.
Nice work! But yeah, those lensflares are distracting, either make them a large glow around the lamp to simulate the thick atmosphere, or make them more lensdirt-y, or get rid of them, imho :)
Huge improvement on the original. Turned out great! Can't quite tell, but I think your normals might be facing the wrong direction. Try flipping the y in marmoset, or setting it to max tangents on the object.
