Sometimes the easiest way for uniform lighting on a tree is to untick the tangent space normal map checkbox in your material. This will pretty much break your shading but can look quite nice. You will have to tweak your specular and subsurface quite a bit though, usually you should start without specularity in this case… -

Which program are you using? Yes I use an invisible low poly cage for physics. Using a lower poly invisible cage will help keep your calculation time lower.
