I've got a portfolio review coming up soon, so I'll probably have a bit of stuff to post in here once I get it together. Meanwhile: I usually hate doing drawings where I'm supposed to reduce the model to a series of cylinders, but I think this one turned out okay. The instructor did too, apparently, so the next drawing he…
Thanks guys! Worked perfectly. I did notice tho that a locked vert is not respected in quad draw. While working with all other tools it stays locked. I guess its not the biggest deal, I was trying to use quad draw relax on the area without moving those verts. I ended up using the smooth from the sculpt geo tool instead.…
Quick lion study today. It's almost like I only know how to draw quick and dirty. I've tried really focusing on one piece a few times, but it's like I lose spontaneity and it makes my work boring. Maybe it's because the only drawing classes I've ever had is life drawing and that's usually pretty fast paced. I'm just…
I like both the drawings. The first one has some good movement, but it looks a little messy. The second one could probably use some more details. As far as the style issue is concerned, I dont think most artists "develop" their styles. They just draw a lot, and eventually a style comes out. Some people are good enough to…
Definitely agree with this and my main motivation for going to college. I feel the best I will get from college is a sense of direction and networking, not to say I won't learn anything, but I see a lot of that coming from online videos and books whereas in college I'll be getting the benefits of networking, developing a…
Updates on the Durango project! Having talked to my instructor about my intention, I'll not be getting to the interior within this quarter, and I won't start fixing the model for another few weeks. He suggested that I get the script working on what I have, then add the pretty later. So this week was a lot of playing and…
I'm really unclear what sort of concept job you are expecting to be able land with your current portfolio. You have zero completed turnarounds. You have zero completed human / character models. You have zero FX / particles diagrams. You have zero environmental concepts. You have zero vehicle concepts. You have zero weapon…
The following is my opinion on this matter: Do whatever you need to do to produce a awesome final visual result. If you can draw/paint well, then use your own concepts. Otherwise use someone else's concepts (but get their permission first). If you can't draw/paint well, work on those skills separately from your 3D…
In my life Drawing classes whenever I knew I was going to be tight on time I would snap a picture of the scene from my angle. This is probably a good idea to start doing in your sessions. hopefully the teacher gave you warning that you were going to be rendering this pencil drawing in full color but if not that's a little…
First peice of advice would be to go back and start again (sort of). These look to be pencil work, so am I right in assuming these are the first pass at everything? Try drawing over each of the characters with different concepts. Take the same drawing, erase the hair and then draw new styles. When it comes to designing…
