Pivot, turning off the gamma LUT appears to have helped, but there is still a seam here. This is a normal made with xnormal. -

is there away to assign a hotkey for the feature "place pivot at" in the list of object tools ? i could not find it in the custom user interface. looks like it is missing! -

Make sure the pivots and transforms for the low and high are exactly the same. Painter has issues with that and it's very sensitive. -

In the Editable Poly modifier, select the edge ring, then set the action center to Use Pivot Centers, and scale. -
