I don't have much to contribute, just wanted to say thanks to everyone for being so specific and forthcoming with pricing information. I was getting the impression that it was somewhat taboo to publicly discuss these topics, and was having a difficult time trying to figure out what I should be charging for my services.…
I forgot all about that. I sort of dismissed it when I saw the videos about it at E3. While it sounded nifty, I knew there'd be SOME kind of latency like you're describing. For a hardcore gamer, it seems like the service is crap. But then again, for the hardcore gamer, they probably have their own good hardware.
God damn it it - looks like the public service for me rather than the Australian games industry ugh..mutherf**kr jimmypopali - unless you're some kind of artist savant/prodigy whom emits rainbows from your butt, seems like you shouldn't - but meh, just my cynical morose opinion.
Have you guys integrated the adverts correctly this time around? Chrome here and they overlap some of the top elements haha! -I've never had a issue with polycount banner ad's because it's free service to the public, actually it's the only site whitelisted on my Adblock. Just making sure you squash bugs :D
Congrats to all participants, you guys did an AMAZING job, it's a real honour for us to see our service in your hands. We published a blog post about it too, you can find it here: http://blog.sketchfab.com/post/59605329752/vg-remix-winners-announced See you soon for another contest!
Yes, you are compensated for your work in a studio environment. In a large to medium sized studio they usually issue what are called "paychecks" and these can be traded for cash, goods and services. At a small studio they may just hand you cash everyday based on the quality of your work, or just take you out to dinner…
I agree, the DS+Friends can be put in one thread called "gamer tags" or something. That way people can post all thier "handles" and other info for all the games/services. Or better yet ask that people put that info in their polycount discription? Also is there a way to give the sticked threads a different icon?
dang poop! You might want to check this microsoft support article out Windows XP service pack 2 causes a drop in firewire speed to s100 for some reason. EricChadwick, we use Micronet external firewire drives to back up our archives, they've been pretty sturdy so far.
Raising game prices reduces the sales and may end up making less money. Maybe Sony expects you to put like 50% of your game onto their download service so people pay 60$ at retail, get only half a game and have to buy levels at a few bucks a piece after that.
The services tab could use a bit of formatting, I was having trouble reading it. Also, when I clicked on your blog I was a little surprised it didn't open in a new window and completely took me away from your main site. Could change that maybe. My 2 cents, hope it helps.
