What eq says, but I use Textool's a>b tool to bake from channel 2 to 1, which is just a bit quicker than setting up rtt yourself. I do this a lot, especially on handpainted lowpoly characters. I use the gradient to mask layers, it works really nicely.

I know it is a saturated market but when it comes down to it I have never wanted to do anything else as a career. You just have to keep pushing and trying until something comes up. As for a plan B im not even sure what I would consider, I guess something in CGI.

you can do an offset to move it back. There is a button in the motion panel that will offset the biped. Its like the master control. I cant tell you where it is b/c I dont have max on my work machine, but look it up in the help file, and Im sure you'll come accross it.
