Great start to the sphere painting, although I must note that your rocks look flat on the sphere...try to distort the rocks as they wrap around the ball so it looks 3D. And also create cracks on the outline (outside) of the sphere where the stones are supposed to have grout. It will look more authentic and break up the…
Awesome work dude! I love the tangent space joke. Would be great to see some breakdown or wip images. And the only other thing I can say about it is that the legs of the robot seem to blend in with the rocks abit, some algae on the surface of the rock might help define the surface more. Again awesome job  .
Sounds like a pretty neat idea. I have no experience with custom brushes like that, could you give me a brief run down? I dont really see how that could work for the dirt. I get the whole rock part, but just the plain 'dirt' under the rocks im not sure how to make.
The colours and values in a lot of the spec maps are questionable. These rocks for example, the spec makes them look more metallic than they should because they have a coloured spec.... rocks don't have that. I think a lot of people will have to end up tweaking them for their target engine or just make one from the diffuse…
Like many folks on here, I love the work of one, Artyom Vlaskin, and thought his Pirate concepts would be a great guide for a scene. My goal with this environment is to show off some environment, painterly and Zbrush skills I have that my portfolio isn't representing. My second goal is to make a Unity tutorial lesson on…
I do have a question regarding environments. Looking at the game I believe most of the rocks/cliffs were modelled by hand and got tiling textures right? I have only seen a few that could be sculpted like the bigger rocks on madagascar. It's a shame there are hardly any wireframes around.
Yeah that last one really shines! Would you mind explain how you did that desert rock version? Very interesting "texture" on the rock, great pattern.. Watch out for shadows though, you got some in all of them? I would take them away completely.
lighten the stone as suggested. Grass is super tiled as well. You smoothed the rocks on the left and right, but not front and back, not sure why. They seem too round anyway, rocks are usually piled straight up, but yours all curve with that top bevel. Maybe add some dirt to the white walls.
you definitely did good! you got your main shapes down :) some extra definition on the rocks to the left would be good, but just in the lit spot, dont render every rock :) Check out marco bucci "10 minuts to better painting" series, might help you :)
Man that stone work is nice! Obviously the rest of the scene is looking awesome as well, but the stone and rock work is art onto its self. Would love to know your general approach to it as I've seen plenty of good rock walls and stone, but not as many that work, esp with more of a napped look.
