iirc UDK meshes DO share materials and meshes (so there are memory savings) but they aren't 'instanced meshes'...as in, they are not 'batched' and drawn together in fewer draw calls on the graphics card like say, the UDK foliage is. @capone when you select you substance in the explorer window is the Output Size type set to 'Relative to parent' or 'Absolute'? the parent size thing is only usable on relative to parent. But you're probably better off having it set to absolute and then setting the 'Output size' to be higher, try setting it to 1k and see… -

Most likely it is double deformation caused by having your hose meshes parented to a moving/rotating/scaling transform. Ie. the vertices of the mesh are being transformed twice, once by inheriting its parent's transform, and again via the bones they are skinned to. Here's another approach if you query what the parent of the window is: textureWindow -q -parent polyTexturePlacementPanel1; and this returns anything at all you know it's open eg: if ((size(`textureWindow -q -parent polyTexturePlacementPanel1`)) == 0){ this won't tell you if you can actually see it - only if it's open
