Gabe from Penny-Arcade has been using the Surface Pro recently, obviously for 2D work, and he's been loving it. I've been hearing a lot of bad things about the Surface Pro, but then that's mainly from the main-stream tech sites, and they're maybe not looking at it in the same way game devs would be. -

Re: Cryengine and drawcalls
One of the reasons why more sub mats were needed is because we were limited to 512 textures due to texture streaming on consoles. I was aming for a texel ratio ~200px per meter for the buildings which means you need more tiles and you can't just put everything on one map. -

What is a huge part of the solution? Digital downloads/ electronic distribution. More money going to developers, less to the retail space who then resells them for huge profits. Entice your customers into this option by reducing the price of the downloaded version significantly, and offering small extras, thus securing… -
