Yea and it is used pretty frequently for that purpose so I wouldn't see the harm in rounding out the hardsurface tools with a grid or unit system -

That'd be the snap grid, which you've set to increments of 10,000. Click on the number in the upper right corner of the viewport and set it to something smallish. -

instance them in a 3x3 grid and place copies of them in element mode and watch the tiling propagate. or use zbrush 2.5d canvas stamping. -
