If you have a normal mapped mesh, you generally will only paint in the colour values on the your diffuse map and not so much your tonal values. The shadows and highlights will be sorted with your lighting and specular maps. As divi suggested, using an Ambient Occlusion map multiplied on top of your diffuse could help… -

eh, i dunno. from the content creation perspective, working with a PBR shader isn't fundamentally different from working with a non PBR shader. if you're already used to thinking about materials in the structure of diffuse, spec, and gloss components - none of that has changed, although some of it has a newer fashionable… -

I think the modeling is pretty good and so are your diffuse textures. Right now though, your characters look like they only have diffuse textures. I would really focus on material definition. If you're not doing this already, you should put them in a game engine (such as UDK). That way, you'll be able to see much better… -

I agree with ParoXum about the metal panels. I actually didn't even notice them for a while the first time I saw them. There too busy and noisy while just blending into the stucco/wood way too much. I think a more simplified darker metal diffuse would work better for them. It will help pop them off a lot more in contrast… -

Normally there isn't a normal map. That said some games are starting to work normal maps in with this process (whether hand-painting the normal maps, CrazyBump like you did, or sculpting the textures in ZBrush).
