Small update to the scene, still working on the main modular building blocks. Now going to start moving onto more detailed pieces like broken walls, bricks fallen roofs that kind of thing. I will happily accept any idea the get thrown my way!
When I tried to pack normal map with other texture, it looked really bad. Default normal map compression looks better. If there are no metallic details, I would pack height instead of metal. Theres no reason to have full-black metal texture for brick wall, for example.
I would like to mirror what everyone else said and say that the bridge is a really important part of this and adding variation with the bricks would help a lot. Even though it sounds like you just threw this together it already looks awesome I look forward to seeing more!
Downloaded your obj and test bake in 3ds max, all looks fine to here and no pixel seam. There is no gap on UV either. But just your bricks mesh arrangement, (from your image above) the bottom row, second from the left, it doesn't tile properly to the top-bottom.
In the case where there are two similar models side for side, one is the high poly, the other is the intended low poly I'll put the normals on. The l-shaped bit of geometry is me thinking I might zbrush up some rough bricks to normal onto the wall. Thoughts? -- Kitty
Just a sidenote, I noticed there's a lot of shadow information in that brick texture. Generally you'd want to avoid that. Read pages 52-61 here: http://www.crytek.com/download/gdce2013_shining_the_light_on_crysis_3_donzallaz_final_plus_bonus.pdf Apart from that I really like your character stuff you got going on. Keep it…
Looking great! The only thing that sticks out to me is that the grass could be a tad bit darker in my opinion. either that or adding some more colour to the bricks to balance the the grass and then use post process to desaturate and tweak the whole env. to your liking. Can't wait to see more of this!
Looking good so far. I think adding a little bit more saturation will make it pop out more (the bricks in the cracked walls would seem to be more brighter red and the walls more cream). Looks like a WW2-set mediterranean environment unless I'm mistaken.
Hey, I'm working on a weapon mod for FO4 as well - did you follow any guides for using the creation kit for adding weapons, or any references for material definition? I've kind of hit a brick wall in that respect, and you seem to have ported your mats over seamlessly.
I would suggest breaking up the edge where the gravel meets the wall. Just something a little more organic and interesting instead of the straight edge you have atm. Other than that, it's coming along nicely :) I like your brick texture so far, too.
