subdiv(just pressing 3 on the keyboard, not mayas crazy version of subd's) with creased edges will give almost the same effect, you may have to increse the subdivision levels though depending on just how sharp you want it. Just make it tile and you can use scroll_anim x,y (speeds) For a decent water fall speed in the y plane: scroll_anim 0 -0.75 (I think that's it anyway.)
