Ahh, press Z. That's the default button for "Zoom Extents All" in Max. It should make the model take up the full size of all the viewports.

For the allignment thing use the flatten x/y/z tools which Meshtools provides (hmmm....somehow I think that comment is redundant on this site ).

If you bake overlapped UVs you will get z-fighting so definitely offset from 0-1.
