What exactly are you doing? To achieve this effect, you typically need to bake out your Lightmaps.

You can use Blender to make the exact same thing as in 3DS Max or Maya. Or Modo. Or Lightwave...

Yeah, not building your lighting is a mistake. Mirror's Edge relied heavily on lightmaps to achieve its look.

Yeah, hes probably using 1 atlas texture, and 1 lightmap. Its a pretty small scene.
