bleh haha after seeing this the next morning, I see a ton of things I would have liked to add. like in image1, above the floor circle pattern I would have likes a pickup item to hover since that was the idea for it. I dislike fixed pickup platform since it almost always conflicts with the theme of the map.
You really need to maintain clean loops flowing around the mouth in a circle. You have a ton of weird connections at the corner of the mouth that just won't work well. The eyes are better, but still a bit messy. Take a look at the wiki if you haven't yet…
N-gons do not matter in high-poly, well not as much as clean modeling. Both wires are pretty messy. so clean it up if you do not wanna do the technique suggested before (the one i would do anyway). Next to that your Retopo model is way to high ......no need to make all those circles.
The black bleeding through is an issue but the issue I'm trying to work on now is the giant difference in lighting between some of the pieces themselves. I circled a few examples to show which parts I am talking about. It seems really odd to me that I'll have a dark area and the BAM! super light block thrown in the middle.

I think I'm going to take a go at this, the only thing I am unsure about is how to extract the circles out of a flat surface in maya. Would I want to do hard surface modeling toggling back and forth from smooth view, or simply double-extrude and and move around vertices? Thank you in advance :)

I like it...but the arm of the bolt looks really thin and small in comparison to the knob(the ball on the end). I know it's a hard detail to really see in your source, but It should be a little more quarter-circled and less J-shaped/boxy, and a tad thicker as well as a bit smaller knob.
