Ok I think I have a tip that may help you with texturing, dont use brushes with soft edges. use them for effects or softening areas but dont use them to define shapes or add dirt or shadow, in my opinion you should rather use harder brushes that have a little texture. Some good basic brushes for 3D are included here…
Once you have an emissive map set up in the material editor, select the static mesh with the material applied (your pod) and hit F4 to bring up its properties. select StaticMeshActor -> Static Mesh Components -> Lightmass -> Check the box that says use Emissive for Static Lighting.
