David: Made the net in Maya. Used the wrap deformer to tie the net to a nurbs plane, using that to fit it to the body and Zbrush move tool to make little tweaks.
The UVs are fine. I really like the way the seams are placed in the crevasses of the buldgy parts and the way it wraps under his arm up to the neck. Great job
If they're planes, I think it would be easier to paint in 2d / photoshop. If they're wrapped around the head already, it might be harder to paint on the strands you want?

if he creates a profile he can wrap it round whatever he wants in the future as well. Just save off the profile to a shape layer and save it for later.
some thoughts.. - any warping in normals will exaggerate the discontinuity so you want to make sure they're actually flat - i have seen occasions where baking to the flipped half of the uvs in painter caused a seam like this on an otherwise perfectly good model - also happened when the uvs were stacked - does it go away if…
