Firstly I made simple base in 3ds max and I sculpted folds in Zbrush. I use Selwys brushes from http://www.selwy.com/2009/zbrush-clothes-tutorial/ Buttons were made in 3ds max. today's mini-WIP
Ah, good to know what causes it, at least. Just something I'll need to learn to live with, then. Right now I'm struggling with max 2009 freaking out on my second monitor. If I pan, my model flies off into space.
*Updated final shot with slightly updated door & pipe textures. And for shits and giggles, here's a close up of the robot, supersampled & unedited. Thanks again for the feedback everyone. Now its time for a little break before UC 2009 starts :poly108:

Try "Transform Component" found in all the Component Shift+RMB Menus, the blue arrow transforms along the normals ( might have been introduced around Maya 2009 or maybe earlier ). Unless that is what you meant with "move along normals".
Don't bother with Autodesk if you don't have the money. There are free options. Blender 3D and Sculptris are probably the best you can find on a $0 budget. You can get Silo for $109 US right now if that's in your price range.
I'm dualbooting Win 7 64bit on a 2009 Mac Pro with no problems. Games and content creation apps work perfectly on the Windows side. Though I try to avoid booting into Windows if I can since OS X is too fun :)
Nice! Don't forget to put the wireframe of your explorer, really important in your portfolio. I would also specify the triangle count (ex: 10, 000 tris) and the texture size (ex: 2 x 1024). It's coming really nice! :)

I've worked with Max 2009 and below forever, I've only recently just used Max 2014 at my current job and the graphite freeform modeling tools seem decent at retopology but I haven't really dug too far into them.
