well, what you can't see here is the top where it blends into another complex shape. I did just follow your advice and tried to create a low-poly version but I'm having similar issues trying to smooth and blend that geometry in. That looks useful, i was wondering how to get high info onto my normal map but looks like that system would let me blend two normal maps together anyway, so just gotta get the height map out as a normal and blend em. idnever thought to overlay my AO in substance so that saves me a ton of space moving forward! -

This took me ages to work out too! in the material editor, by the opacity setting there is an opacity value you can switch between Alpha Blend and Alpha Test. alpha blend produces soft and semi transparent results, you pretty much jack the slider up until you get something you like. (… -

you can use a combination of blend if grey and blend if grey underlying layer and then nested layer masks for this sort of effect in photoshop. remember you can group a single layer and then layer mask is repeatedly so it's easy to control separate parts of the total mask - ie a gradient, a procedural noise/clouds filter,… -
