Depends on
what you are aiming for - are you modeling an actual weapon or an airsoft
replica? If it's the
latter, then it's correct. If it's supposed to be a real weapon, then some
details are wrong (mainly the trigger). Also, even the reference, apart from
the custom pistol grip and railed handguards (and mag you're…
Presentation yeah I guess, but ... you've got some further fundamental issues you need to fix up, they all screamed out at me with all klaxons going off before I considered any visual presentation problems. - you call yourself a 'junior weapon and vehicle artist' but have no vehicles to show. Announce what you are, not…
I would start a new project and follow a correct pipeline. I have been suggesting this to various people here on Polycount so this is a copy and paste, however as DOXTURTLE has also provided: I would suggest following this tutorial made by Polycount's very own Millenia. It is an older video so the texturing pipeline is pre…
While Jack's comparison isn't entirely apples to apples, as even a child has some basic understanding of anatomy and when a person "looks wrong", and knowing the inner workings of firearms takes a little more specific knowledge. He brings up a very important point, that any artist worth his salt is going to take that extra…
thanks man! yeah its the maya material, yeah i want to test the models ingame but i don't really know how yet, i cant seem to find a way to see the models before sending them. yeah i was thinking of doing a weapon but i was considering working around the original weapon since they talk about some weapon effect meshes and i…
@Udjani it really depends what the weapon is for. I do know some VR games with a lot of polygons used in weapons. Since you are not locked in a singe perspective you could observe the whole weapon in detail so in that case it´s better to model a screw then baking it. Sure for a AAA first person shooter 80k is waaay too…
@Moffee - haha! That's looking great. Here is an update on my Dragon Knight weapon. Did some more concept refining, and finished the base model for the most part. Have a few more pieces to make, and then clean up the geometry. Question about DK's technical requirements. I'm not sure which limit is for the weapon and…
So outside of the hours spent today geo-referencing a *.xyz terrain file and it's corresponding color map (and fixing projections...) I ran a test using what we will be using for in-game graphics, and with my hardware and GUI running 3 animated stat-bars (no radar map yet), it was a steady 28fps. I am very happy because I…
Looking ace! I really like the specular shine above his thumb when he inspect the weapon to the extent that I think you could try painting some of those into the weapon texture. Blue plate at the very end of the weapon could use light gradient like this. At least judging from workbench. I have no idea how that would be lit…
Yeah, he'll have a weapon mount - it's pictured in the above post. I'm not sure about how it'll handle akimbo weapons, but could maybe have the weapon mounts attached to special bones that can move into different positions to accommodate them. The cow is pretty much naked, 'cept for the backpack, so it's going to be a…
