If you don't need it to be clean, I just use the wrap it auto re-topo option. takes about 15 seconds with pro-optimize. -

Ace-Angel> you example with the 1D ramp. Could be an issue with texture filtering and the texture sampler being set to Wrap rather than Clamp? -
