Foxconn is SO totally overblown it's outright ridiculous. Foxconn employes 920,000+ people (over 1 million people according to BBC). 17 have commited suicide out of a million people. Con is definitely cost: http://www.gdconf.com/register/passoptions.htm add in lodging, food/drink, travel. Compared to the $125 Gnomon workshops, you don't really get your money's worth at GDC.
