Really awesome scene if maybe a little too busy in places with all the tiny light sources. Love your hipoly models! One more minor crit: I think you could crank up your spec/gloss settings. Can't really see spec in the ingame screenshots. It would also make the normals pop out more. -

Hm...I'm not so sure that having noise in the gloss will really help. Try adding a subtle amount of that to the spec map. You could also try to add a tiny bit of blue to the spec map as well. Also, are you using the default lighting setup? It will probably help you evaluate the properties of the material if you use your… -

Thanks for the post :) It's a great example of how a spec map can help make a metal object look more metallic. I do have a spec map on this model, however after viewing the pic from above I realize I need to boost it up more. I really like the scratches along the edges on that trunk as well. -

Well a MMO is usually a lot lower spec than next gen games so fancy shader tricks are probably a bad idea. However can't you use the fallback material system? It's supposed to let you define a simpler material that doesn't have the instructions not supported by the lower spec. UE3 should automatically scale between the two. -

prox: normal, spec and diffuse, yes. Or maybe not even a spec-map, given how shiny everything is. The recessed bits (cracks etc..) are just as shiny as everything else, by the looks of it, so if it does have a specmap, it's not doing a lot. And who knows, that might actually look quite alright from up high, so it could be… -

Looking good =) A few points: - Spec is too bright, the skin is really shinny, almost like polished metal? - The white space around the spec might bleed through on the edges of the UV shells, maybe pick another color closer to the shells themselves. Same goes for the normal map. - I'm not really sure whats going on with… -

thanks for the feedback guys. HAL: I think the spec part is actually more due to bad lighting rather than bad spec maps. everything's basically lit with a directional and ambient light. the parts that you thought looked good actually have spot lights on them. I'll have to look a little on how to fix that though. thanks. -

Looks a helluva lot better than my first character...Right now he looks like a greased up, glowing eyed Nazi of doom....tone down the spec on his skin, and break it up with some noise so it's not one smooth sheen...Same with the spec on the uniform. Also there is a very visible seem running down his forearm... -

The brass is currently yellow, give it a darker more orange diffuse, more spec and gloss. For the metal try having less noise in the diffuse, put some of that noise in the spec, and increase the gloss. You might also find different environment presets (skys) in marmoset make a significant difference. Also post references…
