Hey all, latest project for my portfolio. A cavalier I'm trying to give some Spanish flare to it. The leather was hand done, the cloth was all Marvelous Designer. Still have a long ways to go with the cloth and face and hair. Its going to be game rez.
Head too blockish, arms too humanoid. Find a balance between robot and human. Don't give him retro clothing. Give him retro-with-some-future clothes. Watch Blade Runner.
These are roughly a sculpt I did as a starting point. The goal here were to find the proportions and composition. The anatomy of the character is not good but I was not looking so carefully to that, as the man will be covered in clothes. And these images are the blocking with clothes on:
@Francois_K Can't wait to see how you do the clothing, I think in a very low poly I would still work to keep the folds of the cloth in actual geometry in order to keep silhouette.
I think it's always nice to have an accurate and pleasing body underneath to build clothes on to. Otherwise it becomes odd trying to reshape the clothing if you decide to edit proportions later. Besides, it's good practice. :)
I also made a cloth that hangs from the robot's belt. initially, I wanted to do it all in marvelous designer, but in the end I did everything in 3D max, using the "cloth" modifier and slightly modified everything in z- brush.
I actually already took another pass at the beard, pretty happy with the base of it, needs refining though. also changed his cloth back to a dark purple, the light green or even dark green isnt working for the cloth imo
The front planes of your bookshelves are brighter than their top planes. The cloth on the table and alter could be tattered and maybe even stained in some areas. The cloths should have their top planes painted in if they're being draped over something.
Now that all the cloth has been done I exported them into Max 2010 where I skinned to my base character ready to be exported as fbx into character creator. Shots in Character Creator seeing how the cloth performed.
This is looking really solid. Small points that I have noticed is that for the cloth under the knee braces, they look a bit flat. In the concept the cloth has a bit more volume and seems to be thicker /folded on the top. Other than that this looks great!
