Hello all - I am working on a paintjob for the Desert Eagle, inspired by classic 80s spaceship markings. As far as workflow is concerned I am designing it over a side view orthographic render, applying the graphic to a secondary set of custom UVs, and reprojecting them back onto the original UVs for further detailing: -

Look at a couple 80lvl articles like this one https://80.lv/articles/001agt-004adk-3d-environment-design-symbols-breakdown/ Maybe this will give you a sens of direction. Personally I would say start with creating a decent prop before going for a full environment. -

Bad ram can do all sorts of wacky things. Take all your sticks out but 1 and see if it still happens. Repeat the process with each stick to find out if any of them are bad. This has fixed probably 80% of my computer hardware issues. -

thanks very much for all the help, ill check that vid out in a min. just out of query i have split the smoothing groups at any 80/90 degree angle but i havent split the uvs because will it not be a pain in the ass to texture if the uvs are all split?? -

I use Modo, but maybe Maya has something similar. It has a useful edge selection tool called diagonal which selects the diagonals you need to remove to go back to a quads mesh. It's not perfect but it does a good 80% of the job, the selection needs to be adjusted by hand. -

Looks cool! I'll be getting it for sure. The action scenes look nice and manic!!! :-D I still prefer 80's G1 colours and design. Too many games are going for this over detailed unreal look, makes me sad. Best off luck Ott -

HA! I've never even seen this movie, but I remember the line being made fun of on VH1's "I Love the 70s" (or maybe it was "I Love the 80s," I'm not exactly sure when the film was made). Anyway, it's from the movie "Carrie," if I remember correctly.
