I seem to remember there being something that came out with the release of Max 6 or 7. I thought it was an actual discreet product though. I can't find anything like that on the Autodesk site now.
obj works for meshes but if you have other things to port back and forth like bones, animations, lights, cameras ect... then FBX is Autodesk's way of shuttling files around between their different apps.
You can use Detach and tick the "Detach As Clone" option to copy in place (Max2009). I have it on hotkey now. Progress at Autodesk is measured by adding extra steps to do things I guess.
Its a noticed bug I do not know if it is known or not but I would post on the Autodesk forums. As far as I have interacted with it it doesn't cause any actual issues other than the visual annoyance
the student versions from Autodesk and quixel are non commercial only. The Marmoset team as it seems wants you to actually being able to earn money with their product. the pricetag of $129 is for a student in my opinion ok.
I'm not familiar with Max's terminology or its FBX exporter, but if you're having no luck perhaps you could export to another format that supports everything you need and then run that through Autodesk's FBX Converter?
Try this: Exit 3ds Max. Rename this folder: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2015 - 64bit Start 3ds Max. If that doesn't work, then you'll need to re-install the product.
thanks everyone. did some minor hp details... unfortunately this autodesk 3ds max application error window is covering most of them i wanna get bakes done today... updates soon
If you also know max, use these (the second one, i made :) ) : http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3ds-max/how-to-bake-a-flawless-normal-map-in-3ds-max/ http://vimeo.com/11052708
Bumpage, because I'm curious. I know I'm probably annoying everyone w/ these questions about trivial things in Max, though. :) Maybe I should post this stuff on Autodesk's forums instead...
