Autodesk has released the educational version of 3D Studio Max 2012.They have it up in the students area of their website. You will have to register to get access to the actual download link though. Thank you to Alemja for the note on that.
Nice! actually caught myself getting excited for a 'Max product update when I spotted it in the Autodesk Desktop app thingy - it's been a while since that happened but I do like the feeling haha!
I've done a bit more ready about this and feel a bit silly about my initial reaction. :) It's not like it was Autodesk giving the money. :P Now my question is ... only $30K? Ha ha! =)
I'm considering buying ZBrush Core, as I own Mudbox, I doubt I'll need the full zBrush. After the sting Autodesk did to Mudbox, I'm not into spending another grand on a sculpting program.
TheFoundry should just make a modo specific export format for any of the major engines like crytek-maya plugin. Autodesk is probably (my wild speculation) is just gimping fbx for competing companies.
Using a command line switch is better. Help file http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/13/ENU/Autodesk%203ds%20Max%202011%20Help/index.html?url=./files/WSf742dab041063133-5029f504112a1ce7dbd-7fee.htm,topicNumber=d0e466638
@blot12345 ... that's awesome! I'll be using that. Since you included the maya logo, though, it makes me think it would be even cooler with all of Autodesk's icons or other general game art related stuff.
I would say hold on the model and watch some tutorials on the process first. http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3ds-max/next-gen-weapon-creation-day-1-the-high-poly-model/
What I want to see: Able to re-sell educational Z-brush licence Cheaper educational licence (actually available from their website) Or Do what Autodesk has done with their educational licences
I didn't check the video, but perhaps it's what you want. http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3d-studio-max/using-splines-to-add-detail-to-your-high-poly-model-in-3ds-max/
