The model and texture look great, the only comment I have is that there is a ton of wasted UV space. So much so, if you packed them tighter you could probably pull off the same amount of detail in a 1024 map :) . Looks good though.

looks good, but WTF? "17k, it's got 2*2048 + one 1024 textures" that's just crap ... one 2k is enough. imho no game out there or even announced has specs near that (except fighting games where you only have two chars)
If you look closely at your model you will see many symetrical spaces that could use mirrored UVs. Delete the areas that can be mirrored and scale up the rest. I think 1024 for the gun is a bit much, but I'm a bit old school that way.
Finished the retopo and low poly bake - would love some crits, could optimize the topo to lower (currently at 4553 Tris) but it is pretty much the only piece that's going to be in the scene and the main focus. Normal Map at Half Scale (Original 1024) Thanks for looking!
Spring is alright, made it big in the UV, You're right about those little ridges as it was baked with 2048, might get lost in 1024 (Already textured and baked some of those attachments, presented hi poly for consistency) http://cargocollective.com/tom3djay/Matech-BUIS
Thanks nordahl154! I cut down the texture to 1024 and it seems to hold up nice,I always seem to make textures too big:\ also here is a better wireframe Which edges were you referring to? was it the area with the indent near the butt stock?

i was surprised at how well it works, that said im not happy enough with the auto retopo feature of 3d-coat so i will probably redo this leg and do the retopo manually in 3d-coat. still looks decent. 1000 tri, 1024 normal map.
I see the gaps on the normal map and will fix them. 2514 tri's I also see some more geo that can be fixed. Thank you for the suggestion on the 1024 x 512 map I was going to ask that thank you all for your time.
