So i have been super lazy in posting in my sketchbook thread so here is a mock-up i made in unreal for just to showcase the sword and shield i made for aderyn's cradle a game project i am working on.
It's more like a, "hey, we're finally ready to show you something soon." Not a feature showcase. The teasing is just a tradition to get people hyped. I miss interacting with Brad though. He was usually entertaining and a bit more informative with these things.
65-80USD is quite a bit for a modifier, though not an odd occurrence for people to purchase something like this. Would definitely feel much more inclined to purchase if someone lent you a high poly model to showcase, like you said. Will lurk. :)
Gametrailers.com has video dev diaries for games all the time, and forums like this one, zbrushcentral.com and conceptart.org showcase art from games all the time. Personally I go for that rather than paying extra for the game...cuz I'm cheap!
show reels only make sense, in my opinion , for animation and specific cases where you can only showcase your work thru a video. So , if its still characters etc just make still images :P simple !
Hey Azzan, Welcome. Gj with the black stormtrooper suit, I dig it. Just a heads up for the future, 3D artwork share tends to do better in 3D Art Showcase than General Discussion. Are you baking out normals for the blaster?
Here is a quick turntable showcasing the High Poly anatomy. I have admittedly not touched the feet, feel free to comment or critique. http://vimeo.com/11801548 Edit: Couldn't get the video to embed so if you have time check it out:)
I find blogs a little distracting as portfolio website personally. I prefer an actual simple webpage with thumbnails , like Ryan Church's http://www.ryanchurch.com/ It's super simple but it showcase your work really efficiently. Personal preference I guess.
odium... did you have to pick the one asset that ebagg said he himself made to showcase your views of why you think the game looks bad? fuck you odium please go away. (from the forums. forever)
Texturing wise, I would consider bumping up the self illumination and maybe trying the ink and paint shader (if your using Max). It seems as though that stylized approach might showcase your models better rather than the default shading.
