As I'm new to ZBrush and its workflow I can't offer any other advice then, It should work fine, I mean I didn't have problems replicating the same results more than once...
Well you should at least try and get the forms to be accurate. At least for practice and showcase purposes. It shows an ability to be accurate in your work and not gloss over specific details that the client and their customers may want replicated.
So no basing on an existing piece of concept art ? ANSWER: Your entry should be original for the contest. So if you're inspired by a concept, that's one thing. But if you're taking an existing concept and replicating it 1:1 that's bad.

just a reminder that games can be replicated infinitely with no effort and therefore have no inherent economic value funding development, a la minecraft or dwarf fortress, is the only business model that makes actual sense well, seeya
First Marco, nice replication of the Gun! But in my opinion are some edges a tiny bit too round and smooth, i am no expert in Hard surface modelling but some parts should have harder edges.
Looks amazing :) Great texture work. I remember in the movie it had tonnes of luscious amounts of vegetation. Almost like an abandoned garden, but it was looked after by nature it self. Would be beautiful to see this replicated in here.
[ QUOTE ] How would I make the skin transition smooth going from skin to the stubble? [/ QUOTE ] Why not just get some photo ref, and see how you can replicate the real thing?
Why not just replicate the vertex animation with bones? An animated model that moves forward and left or right (with texture scrolling to hide the movement) should work fine. There are quite a few surfing games, take a look at those.
Yeah I think my main problem is seeing these AAA level models and textures and thinking they're easy to replicate. Some textures look deceivingly simple. I'll keep practicing and try to lower my expectations. Thank you for the encouragement.
