I've already double checked the faces to see if they are inverted along with any other issues that may be causing it. It looks like that the normal's are reversed. Which is strange because I've never had this problem with the 20 other rocks that I've made, However none of those rocks were sharp angles like this just more…
Got some feedback on the rock walls a while ago, so I went back and revised the first rock wall set I made. I changed the scale of the rocks, since their scales were pretty similar on the previous one. I'm going to revise the second one, and will jump back on setting up some of the walls for the scenes.
Search for the RAWK thread, should be in the most recent P&P pages, some people have posted some great general steps to doing amazing rocks and tiling rock textures, I was seriously blown away by more than couple of them. I think Rogelio also dropped in some of his "the last of us" rocks.
As I was inspired by the surfaces of rocks on mountains I wanted to get a tileable rock for it, again I'm not looking for overall surface that can be done through an unique nmap or a mesh, I'm looking for the surface that stands through the rock. Here's something I came up with with SD today: Lots of blends with substract,…
Asthane: there isn't really any loss of density with volcanic residue. The composition of magma is determined by which intrusive rocks were melted. If the magma makes it out into the open it becomes lava and the only difference is that the rock will cool faster, not allowing for crystals to form so that the texture is…
yes, that's correct except the normal map is usually a 1024 per rock formation. These rocks are generally sculpted in Z-brush and the decimated down to a few thousand tris. If you use Udk, the example Foliage map has a giant rock prop that has a similar material set up.
Yeah, I think the Extra Credits people are forgetting to look at the history of popular media. Every generation has it's cultural witch hunt. In the 50's it was rock and roll. What happened? The rock and roll generation became the dominant culture. So as it was with rock and roll, our cultural shift will be to games.
[ QUOTE ] Also, would you mind givin some tips on your sculpting techniques? [/ QUOTE ] The rough edges are made up of lots of rock models which I assembled. And here's a quick explanation I've written up about making rock in general: making rock using mudbox
While I agree that things have to be made as clean as possible, the following is another misconception : With weight transfer tools, it's actually the opposite. You could very well pass an early, non finished version of a model (but with correct proportions) to the rigger so that you can see if it has the correct range of…
There's a nice idea brewing here as a small environment piece. You could go a little further and make a "home" out of this scene by adding a pathway, storage shed and or a garden of sorts. Somewhere to park whatever mode of transport the character uses to get there ? You could do quite a lot to make a very strong piece. On…
