right on, your work here looks really nice, I always enjoy seeing handpainted work and these are great. Curious, what program did you use? what was your approach? Also, it would be cool to have an owl sdk... hint, hint:)
Sorry, I was wondering if this question could be answered. How do I copy a hand painted mask (for the material group) and apply it to another material group. Or, can I take a handpainted mask, and quickly (ie at the press of a button) make it a material ID?
This is a solid start! I'm thinking the next couple of steps are doing the armor detailing and wear and tear. Assuming you're going for a handpainted style similar to the World of Warcraft, look into Tyson Muphy's World of Warcraft character armors for painting reference. http://gardenturtle.blogspot.com/
I would sculpt as much as possible on the bits that deserve it, like the rocks and trees, and then handpaint to get it as close to the ref as possible..... Looking at the ref, id also work out a strategy to get the grass looking gorgeous and 3d, as thats a large element of the scene.
Handpainted birch! :) End result on that is really great. Highlights on the notches look a liiiiitle strange to me in the scene there, unless that over-accented look is what you're after. Nice work either way though - love to see the rest of the scene flushed out.
Very true, for handpainted stuff its such a huge benefit. I was just going off the title of the thread of "successful 3d artist without drawing skil?" which I think you can be. But of course you will be far better off with 2d awesomeness :)
If its only basic painting i would go with mudbox. Its still one of the best handpainting tools out there if you need UDIMs. If you try it dont use the 2019 version there are some bad bugs. Until 2019.1 is ready i recommend 2018.2
I've had a stab at lighting. I'm hoping to call this final for now, got so much work to do on my other modules eeee! I've added more props around the level, and I've made a new handpainted rock texture (64x64 for extra detail)
definitely! There actually is no AO bake on this scene at all, all the detail is handpainted and I believe the entire scene was unlit more detail can still be put into it for sure; I'd like to go back over everything and give it even more highlights and color detail for sure
The tools are basically the same. What you're looking for are handpainted textures. Some tutorials about how to paint in that style. http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/TexturingTutorials#Painting_Stylistic_Textures This might help you with the terrain creation part:…
